George and Helen Beshlian were longtime devoted members of
the Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church in Fair Lawn. Helen
recounted to Pastor David that they originally joined the
Broadway Baptist Church in Paterson in the 1940s. They were
living in Elmwood Park and were going to go to an Armenian
Church but it was in West Paterson and so they decided to go to the Broadway church which was closer and immediately found a home there. It was in that church that they raised their family. They moved over to Fair Lawn in 1985 when the two churches merged and became the Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church. Helen and George were married for 59 years when George passed away in 2002. She continued to be faithful to the Lord and His church. Well into her 90s she could be seen sitting near the front of the church and she was an inspiration to all who met her. She also attended the women’s Sunday School class that had a number of ladies in their 80s & 90s. Our church is blessed to have had this couple as a part of our church family and their memory and Christian witness will continue for many years to come.
