John James Baxter was the husband of Alma Baxter, father of
Robert Baxter and grandfather of Jillian Baxter. Born in Jersey
City, John lived in Hawthorne for 44 years preceding his death
in December 2012. He proudly served his Lord and his country
as a corpsman in the United States Navy from 1954-1958.
John faithfully attended and worked hard in serving others in the Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church. For those who knew him they knew his nickname as "Mr. Coffee." John would make sure that fresh coffee was prepared each Sunday for the coffee hour that followed the services.
John was a wonderful member of the Chancel Choir and shared that musical talent with the North Jersey Chorus which also meets in the church. John was one of the founding members of the Chorus and was honored by having them sing at his funeral service. John is missed by all of his church family, but his legacy lives on through his witness and service to the Lord and His church.
